Leadership: The military trains service members to accept and assign responsibility for people, actions and resources. This training also involves building, motivating and guiding teams. Leadership is at the core of entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurs are leaders who have identified objectives and must gather the necessary resources, then build and motivate their teams to guide everyone towards the completion of those objectives.
Working well under pressure to meet deadlines: Another similarity between entrepreneurs and service members is that each must perform well. Each must do their job and do it right the first time in a timely fashion. Entrepreneurs are often put in stressful situations with limited resources and very little room for error. Like service members, entrepreneurs must accomplish things efficiently with whatever resources are on hand, and on schedule.
Strategic and organizational planning: Military operations require thorough strategic planning towards key goals and cross-checking organizational resources to ensure that each objective is met. Both entrepreneurial and military organizational planning includes assessment of supply chains, logistics and human resources. Entrepreneurs must be proficient at strategic planning and organizational management as they are accountable to their customers, employees and investors. Strategic and organizational planning is critical to keeping customers satisfied.
